What now?
« on: Jul 11, 17, 09:00:04 AM »
A day in which had not started out perfect had continued to disintegrate into a pile of fractured feelings and lost ways. Danae slowly stirred the brew she had made to help calm Leviticus's nerves. She was unsure what had frayed them so bad nor could she understand what offense she had caused to make him come for her like a rabid animal. The only thing that betrayed her calm outward facade was the fact the spoon rattled rather than moving fluidly around the cup as it normally did.

Perhaps what Leviticus had seen was what was making his mood sour, scenes she suspected would make anyone sour. Mother Night she wished she had known it was more than politics but as always, Leviticus was attempting to shelter her when he had kissed her cheek and promised to be back shortly. She was terribly sheltered wasn't she though? Since her mother's passing and the Purge, Leviticus had been father and brother always making sure she had what she needed and far far more. Never had she wanted and rarely a no passed from his lips. Still the Leviticus who had so grossly flopped down on their furniture covered in dirt and blood spewing awfulness towards her and her friend was juxtapose to the Leviticus who had always openly supported her and wanted her to flourish.

What now? she thought. The pieces were so scrambled right now it was hard to see anything past anger, hurt and fear. The brew far over stirred now, sat cooling and it would taste bitter if not served at least room temperature so Danae gathered it up as well as pulling the strings of her emotions back in as best she could. The soft click of her heels being the only sound echoing through the home. Fifteen steps to Leviticus's suite but it felt like fifteen miles she had to walk. Each step like a step through some icy vortex where her feet had to struggle to get her that small step but she arrived.

Normally Danae would have knocked but it would appear familial courtesy had been tossed aside like a bad grape so she opened the door to Lev's room and entered. "I have brought you something which might aid your nerves and temper, which is undoubtedly running high from the atrocities you have seen, brother mine. Else wise I would be hard pressed to understand your sudden need to spit vitriol my way for no reason." Cooler than normal eyes regarded him. "Perhaps you have even given thought to my question if I am your sister or you ward. I would like to know so that I can better guide my actions."

The start to the day was certainly not what he was hoping it to be.  Some semblance of hope that the rest would have brought some manner of respite to the turmoil that was rumbling within him.  The slight disassociation that he felt within his core didn't help him even as he drug himself up from the lush comforts of his bed.  Hair was tossled and completely out of hand even before his fingers brushed through it shoving it back out of his eyes.

A blink here and there before the shock of cool floor against his feet gave him enough of a snap of difference to draw his attention back to focus. A groan left his lips though he raised up from where he had been laying.  Fingers tugged at the bed clothes, quickly divesting his form of the covering before his movements turned him towards bathing.

The act of bathing was a quick and brisk affair.  After drying himself off, his hair was dotted at to soak up the most of the water that still lingered before comfort took place of fashion.  Soft cloth pants hung loose over his hips with a hand reaching out to grab at the shirt just as his door was shoved aside.  His mood already off kilter he did all he could not to bristle at the invasion of his personal space.  A flicker of his eyes twisted towards the door as he shifted his stance.

The urge to lash out even at that invasion of his privacy was palpable and yet he managed to swallow it down.  Even now he had continued to attempt to piece together just what had happened, what situation he had found himself in where he was fighting tooth and nail to control his temper and yet failing in more situations than not.

He gave her the moment to speak her piece.  He owed her that and yet he could not bring himself to back down from his statement the day before.  He might have lashed out in anger and hurt yet he felt it that he could not step down from the line he had drew.  "Oh please do come in, Danae.  Help yourself, here would you like a seat as well?" As his hand waved off to the seat nearest the window.

Snark and ill temper to combat the growing pain in his chest and even deeper within his core.  Fingers reached out, snatching the loose and a little to large laced up shirt before he tugged it on over his head.   Fingers reaching out to comb back his hair before the cup was eyed with some suspicion.  "If you were a ward, Danae, " He stated with his back still turned as he fixed at his hair before continuing, "I would hardly tolerate you barging into my suite.  Now would I?" he posed question as answer.

The cup was snatched up, a brief sniff was offered before a wrinkle in his brow was the only offering of comment upon it's smell before he tossed it back.  Down the hatch as it were before he shook his head in an attempt to clear the taste from his mouth.. More like the need of a knife to scrape it from his tongue and yet that would cause even more issues no doubt. He knew he should reach out, explain what it was he was feeling and yet that growing mistrust in his mind was plaguing him with doubt.

Leviticus was as cold now as he had been when they were downstairs. What act had caused such a rift between them? Once so inseparable yet now there was a canyon of difference between them. Hardly whatever Leviticus had seen in Faro was not enough for him to suddenly turn on her like a rabid dog yet she could count no transgression severe enough for this treatment.

His words were almost as much of a slap in the face as if he had told her she meant no more than a ward to him. Uninvited in so many ways into her brother's life now that perhaps even title of ward would be warmer that was was now between them. "Then if I am no ward, why do you treat me with such cool indifference, brother mine? Sure no gala or silly building is enough to warrant your sudden change in attitude towards me. Whatever Undine said to you prior to my arrival could not have been such heavy that now you would deny me my friend, my charities and your affections. Tell me, Leviticus, what troubles you so deeply?"

Danae was not sure she would get a truthful response in return but if the brew did nothing for his nerves perhaps allowing him his tantrum would reveal so reasoning for his sudden turn. They had rarely been at such true odds and Danae could not recall a time in which Leviticus was ever so stone-hearted towards her or her attempts to sprinkle a bit of sunshine here and there in the darkest areas of the world. It was in fact that reason alone she felt he took comfort in her amongst the tougher parts of life. "What ails you and how can I fix it?" she asked almost naively as she perched on the window ledge and took in his worn visage.

It did not look quite like the Leviticus that kissed her cheek farewell that day and more than that he did not act like her brother, yet she was sure he was no impostor. Something was eating at him yet he held on to it like a boy with a secret cave of treasure which he could not bearto share with another, not even his own flesh and blood. That was not the Leviticus she knew and who had raised her after the Purge. It was just them and if he was turning against her, then he had abandoned the last family he had.
