* Plot Information for Dharo

The intrigue that drives, and plagues, the Territory of Dharo has built and destroyed empires throughout the Territory; and everyone is eager for political power. The reign of Rheava Evesham has been challenged by these power struggles and even more so by the undercutting of power in her Court. The game of politics had bred the need for Spies within the Territory and they have become the backbone of the Queen's reign.

Appearance

Play By:  Sophie Turner
Distinguishing Features:
The red hair, the blue eyes, the fair skin.  Gwen is a beauty, and she knows it.  It is a rare sight to see her feeling less than confident.  Where she walks, she owns the room.  When she smiles, she knows it reaches into the darkest corners.  Whether that's true or not is irrelevant.

Personality

Personality:
Like all of Margaret's children, she really didn't know her mother until after she was nearly an adult and had shown the potential she would have coming into her own power.  Combining this with the obvious realization that Margaret prefers the company of her horses to her own blood, Gwen's relationship with her mother is strained at best.

This strain shows through in Gwen's stubborn streak, though she hates to admit that she is similar to her mother in this way.  Once her mind is made up, there is little that can sway her in another direction.  While she rules Arinthorpe well, she wants more.  She wants the Province.  Not for the power it offers, but because she wants to prove she is better than Margaret.  The power is just a pleasant bonus.

Mothers should love their children for who they are and not what they might do...  Margaret, clearly, does not.  That being said - Wyn doesn't just want to put her mother in her place.  She's a genuinely caring being, and it is obvious whenever someone sees her near something that needs a bit of mothering.  From helping hte livestock of Arinthorpe in their labors to her kindness with children, it becomes apparent that Margaret's daughter is certainly more maternal than her mother.

Which is quite good, considering that she wants a child even more than she wants to put her mother in her place.  She wants to shower her child in love, and affection... and she wants at least one person in the world to love her without condition.  Is that so much to ask?

Likes:
  • 1.  Being Known -  Gwen wants to be known for her own actions.  For her own person.  Not just as Margaret's pretty little red-headed daughter.  She wants to exist for her own reasons, not just as a continuation of a bloodline.
  • 2.  Trees - Scandalous as it may be, there is something relaxing about climbing a tree with a good book.  Whenever she can get time to herself, Gwen will hike up a tree and remove herself from the worries of the world with a good tale to distract herself with.  The heroes always prevail!
  • 3.  Children - She wants some of her own someday.  Desperately.  She wants to have them not to continue the line, but because she wants to love, and be loved in return.  She would never admit it, but the greatest wish in the bottom of her heart is that someone would have made her feel as if she were truly wanted BEFORE she could be of use.
Dislikes:
  • 1.  Horses.  She even feels bad about it.  It's not the horse's fault that her mother loves them more than her... but there it is.  She can't stand the beasts, even though she doesn't much like herself for her bias against them.
  • 2. Margaret Webster - Perhaps it is scandalous to dislike your own mother.  Perhaps it is even repulsive... but a person cannot help what they feel.  Gwen does not hate her mother.  She also seriously does not like her.  Margaret's willingness to meddle in Gwen's life only after ignoring her until she was nearly an adult is infuriating.
  • 3.  Clutter - Clutter implies a lack of order and control.  Clutter implies that one cannot control their own actions and home, let alone anything else.  It's bad enough that she may not be able to control everything about her own life - she doesn't need anyone in her court allowing clutter into their public lives just to highlight the fact that they don't necessarily belong to her.
Fears:
  • 1.  Failure - Failing at small things is no big deal.  But failing at proving herself, failing at unseating her mother, failing at being anything other than the tool her mother uses to further her own agenda... that is the failure that keeps her awake at night.  It terrifies and motivates her in almost everything she does for now.
  • 2.  Queen Emma Morgan - There is something about that woman that bothers  her.  It isn't the Cymrean... frankly she finds the idea of holding people responsible for something that happened a thousand years ago ridiculous.  It's something about the way that Emma plays 'the game' that ruffles her feathers.  She's just ... too damned good at it.  No one who is that good at back door dealings can truly be as 'good' as the queen's image makes her seem.  Margaret may be a terrible person, but at least she's HONEST about it.
  • 3.  Losing Owen -  None of Margaret's children could rely on Margaret growing up... they had each other though.  Learning that Owen has been sent to Emma's court makes her nervous.  Emma Morgan is a manipulative woman, and she has little doubt that Owen will fall sway to someone that will seem to care for him in the way that Emma Morgan is likely to manage.  Trying to find a way to unseat her mother would be hard enough without having to worry about her brother possibly being used against her as well.
Craft Strengths:
  • 1.  Queen's Touch - Whether through destined fate or pure luck, Gwen has 3 bonded males already in her life.  Managing one male's temper can be difficult enough, managing THREE has occasionally seemed almost impossible.  If not for the fact that she seems to pack a particularly powerful punch through the brush of her hand, she is certain that they would have come to blows more than once.  Her Touch can seem like a hammer to a window pane, but she would simply say that the Darkness blessed her with teh ability to calm even the fiercest Rage a Warlord Prince could summon, if necessary.
  • 2.   Jewel Management -  She may not stand as deep in the Abyss as some, nor as shallow as others... but there was one lesson she learned from her mother that took great root.  She learned to be efficient in her actions.  That driving need to only use as much power as necessary with not a drop more instilled a near-instinctual understanding of how to best use her jewels in her actions.

    Craft Weaknesses:
  • 1.  Sight Shielding - There have been many times in her life when Gwen wished she could just be invisible and sneak away.  Sadly... she has never been able to pull off that particular stunt very well.  The best she can do when attempting such things is to make herself blend in a bit better, and usually only in darkened areas.
  • 2.  Long Distance Communication - There is something aggravating about not being able to enact a 'conversation' with one of her Bonded when he is a few miles away... something very aggravating indeed.  For reasons unbenownst to her, she simply can't seem to start threads with someone who is more than a hundred feet away.

History:
Children are supposed to be a blessing.  But ever since she was a little girl, Gwenyn has been all too aware that her mother seems to have missed that lesson.  She's heard of how her mother believed her father had 'tricked' her into having Gwen, and she's never quite forgiven her mother for the idea that she wasn't supposed to exist.

That resentment helped shape her as she grew.  She learned her Queenly lessons, and she did as she was bid when she was given the Arinthorpe seat.  The ancestral seat of her family.  It was honorable, people told her, and so she would do the honorable thing and rule it damned well.  She modeled her style after the tales of her great-grandmother, being completely willing to get into common clothes and help with the needs of the village with her own two hands.

That particular trait has gained her the loyalty of her people, and she is very well aware of it.  She is too much like her mother to NOT be aware of such things.  But it also gained her the first of her Bonded Males, a Warlord Prince named Arthur Grant.  She adores him, really... but found herself a bit disappointed when it became clear that while he greatly cared for her, his romantic inclinations were most certainly for men.  In a way, that proved a boon.  Arthur, despite being a Warlord Prince, could give clear advice and judgement without having to worry about his chances of gaining her bed being in peril.

It wasn't long after that she met Gareth and Hugh.  Both of them had been travelling through Dharo, though for very different reasons.  Through fate or luck, they had been present when a brawl broke out between two residents of the village.  Both of them had interceded to prevent the violence from spreading, and that was that.  Their plans to continue their travels were abandoned, and Gwenyn found her hands full with three bonded males, two of whom were easily aggravated by their very natures.

Despite the humorous amount of testosterone, she found herself quite content with the situation.  Hugh Turner, as it turned out, was quite the capable and passionate lover.  Arthur took his place as her Master of the Guard, and Gareth settled in quite naturally as her Steward.  In no time at all, her Court was running efficiently and well.  Almost too well, because she found herself returning to her usual stewing on how she was going to prove herself better than her mother.

The news of her brother being sent as an envoy to Queen Morgan's court caught her off guard.  For the first time, she thought that perhaps her mother had made a mistake in her rule.  Emma Morgan was a charismatic and manipulative woman... which were fine qualities in a Queen, to be sure.  Yet Gwen couldn't help but be concerned.  Emma Morgan made her uneasy.  Having her brother in the woman's clutches made her uneasiness worse.

She never brought this up to her mother, of course.  If she was wrong, that could certainly blow up in her face.  If she was right... if she was right, she could use this to supplant her mother and make it clear that the woman should have paid more attention to her children.  The Websters ruled Arinthorpe, and they ruled Wartonshire.  That would not change, not if she could help it.  But that didn't mean that the SAME Webster had to rule Wartonshire... and that a better one couldn't fix the mistakes of the elder.

No one really noticed that the books she tended to take with her on her little solitary excursions for relaxation had changed from the typical heroic tales to histories of their people.  And if they did, they would certainly approve that she was showing such interest.  No one would be likely to imagine that she was teaching herself how the best political minds had maneuvered into power... and kept it.

Show Us What You've Got

Character in Play:
By the darkness, he was magnificent.  She laughed lightly as he rolled out of the bed, striding in his naked glory for the wash basin.  "Truly Hugh... you know how to make a woman happy."
"One woman, anyways."  Hugh laughed, flinging a bit of water at her as he turned with a towel in his hands to dry off.  "Come, my queen... let us ready you for the day."
She made her usual murmurings about wanting to remain in bed... and as usual, he managed to convince her with promises of a better evening to get to work.  She loved him.  He knew it, everyone knew it.  It was no secret.

True, she loved all three of her males... but Hugh had captured her heart int he last few months.  And only Hugh knew how hurt she was when she continued to not be pregnant over the last few months.  She yearned for a child.  Even if only one, she wanted it with everything she had.  That thwarted desire had fueled her fervor in ensuring that her great grandmother's livestock lines were continuing to produce the best wool, that the harvests were more efficient and the land prosperous.

But it didn't change that she was still disappointed.

His kiss to her knuckles brightened her face in a smile, her own hands returning the gesture with impishness as he chased away the small sorrow.  "I know.  I know.  We have things to do."
"You are certain you want to help dig that new ditch?"
"Irrigation trench... and yes.  Besides, I'll get to watch your muscles while you assist."
"Oh, well... far be it from me to disappoint."

She laughed at his lecherous grin, slapping lightly at his arm.  She was right.  Watching Hugh Turner work at the ground was a treat.  She wasn't the only person that day to have to shake themselves back into focusing on their work.  Nor was she the only person to take a few more breaks for water in order to watch the sweat glisten on his arms.  But she was the only person he gave 'that' smile to whenever he looked up.

"My lady, one of the sheep is laboring."

Without a word, she began walking hurriedly after the stable-hand.  She settled in beside him to watch the ewe labor away... and her hands calmly stroked down the female's ears and neck to offer comfort.  Her own hands helped the twin lambs slide from the ewe's body as they got stuck, her own voice murmuring and singing lightly as she and the stable-hand ensured that their new prizes were healthy and accustomed to human touch.

It was messy business... but she felt quite accomplished.  Both twins and the mother were alive and healthy.. and recovering just fine.  This ewe was the culmination of her Great-Grandmother's work in the livestock lines... and the two little lambs she'd birthed were going to continue that line and bring more prosperity to the family's village.

That... that was the point.  She felt it clarify right there.  All the frustrations, all the anger at her mother... it crystallized into the goal.  She was going to make sure the family did well... and she was going to do it the right way.

Hi Erica, I noticed that you referenced "Summer Sky to Opal", but not sure where you've gotten those Jewels from. Do you need a Random roll? Or are you pulling from an approved character sheet?

Yeah, she pulled those from Margaret's sheet originally but then I realized those were chosen jewels and not rolls, so I think she changed her above request for BR/Off rolls.
