Alixen wanted to crawl out of her skin. Shed it like a snake and leave it trailing behind her, all the itchy and scratchy parts left behind, smooth pale scales in its wake. She didn't really have scales. That would just be silly. No, it was the Roux boys who resembled animals so closely, not Lix herself.

She had run out of nightmare weed two days ago. He was late. She had known he was going to be. The spirits had told her. There was nothing to be done for what another person will or will not do, or when they will or will not do it. But even knowing it was coming, she was agitated, restless, even more distractable than usual.

Even Etienne had lost his usual endless patience with her, demanding that she find something to DO that did not involve him. The wolf didn't understand that EVERYTHING involved him. It was a ridiculous order. One that she had no way of following. But it seemed to make him feel better when she pretended, so that's what she would do. Being his keeper was truly exhausting.

When she'd seen the signal that morning from the docks, she had barely bothered to pull on enough clothes to be considered decent before running at full speed through the estate and out the front door. She had knocked several people over in the process. You'd think they knew to get out of her way when they saw her running by now. Sigh.

About half way to the dark, dank, hole in the wall where she would find him, she realized she had run out without shoes. She looked down at her long pale legs, stretching all the way to her feet. Shoes. Those would have been useful. Damn it, Francois.

She wandered into a cobbler's shop a few blocks down the road and looked around, trying to focus on what might help. The male who tended the shop went very still at the site of her. She smiled at him brightly and told him she needed a pair of shoes. He pushed multiple pairs across the counter to her, urging her to take what she wanted and leave. She grabbed a pair of oversized boots, pulled them on, and told him to please bill Etienne for them. As she skipped out of the shop, he mumbled something about how there was no charge, never a charge for her.

People really could be incredibly kind.

Finally arriving at the bar, she spun around three times before bursting through the door, her hair windswept, in her too-short white dress and too-big black boots. Her eyes searched for Francois. He would be here. He HAD to be here. The males in the dark room looked up at her. The wise ones quickly looked away. A stranger she didn't recognize continued to stare at her. Really. Where were his manners?

She started walking toward him, weaving a little as she did. The men around him all scooted their chairs back away from him when she reached the table with the stranger. He leered at her, yellow teeth showing through cracked lips. She stood and stared at him, her pale blue eyes boring into his soul. "Like what you see?" she hissed, her fingers starting to stretch out for him. Maybe today she was a snake, after all.

This thread occurs two days after Dreams Adrift.

Francois did not like being away from his ship. He preferred drinking in the privacy of his own ship when possible, but they were here delivering contraband to the rebellion. They’d be safely out to sea again in another day or so, and then he could drink and smoke his cigarette and celebrate a job well done. Until then, he would tap his fingers on this table, drink this piss-poor booze (which might actually be piss; he couldn’t tell) and hope that Alixen showed up and wasn’t dead in a ditch somewhere while he sat here looking like an idiot.
She’d never been late before and she rarely needed prodding to come and collect her supply of drugs. He always left word of when he’d arrive and she always found her way to him, the way an arrow found its way to a target. More than once, Francois told himself that he wouldn’t deliver to her anymore. She’d chosen her friends in this war and those friends were no friends of his. Sycophants of the Roux family destroyed his career and the Roux had stolen the leadership of Chaillot from the Queens that ruled them all. Alixen supported a system that was out of balance and needed to be fixed.

And yet, Francois couldn’t just leave the Landen woman to rot.

After all, she took the same chances he did.

The Cove was a hole-in-the-wall bar where people of ill-repute often dwelled. It was dangerous for Francois to be here, but it was one of the few places where no one was actively looking for him. Would they rat him out if it paid well? Oh yes, in a heartbeat. He’d be gone long before that happened, though.

He was in the middle of his second weak drink when the door opened. He sat in a both towards the back of the bar, making sure that he had a clear view of the door in case he needed to fight his way out. He hadn’t had to fight his way out of a place in six months, but Francois wasn’t fool enough to believe his luck would hold. He’d never been to a bar where a fight didn’t start within an hour of his entry. He was now forty-eight minutes into his stay at the Cove, leaving twelve minutes for things to go to shit.

So it was fitting that Alixen Perrot chose that moment to arrive, wearing a scrap of cloth that technically passed for a dress. Francois alternated between cursing at her lack of decorum and remembering that he’d not enjoyed a woman in months, Landen or not. He sighed.

She’s going to start a fight.

Maybe she won’t start a fight. Perhaps she is all right.

She always starts a fight.

You’re so close! Just eleven more minutes and you’ll break the streak!

She’s reaching for that guy’s face.

Oh fuck.

This may not go poor--

She’s going to start a fucking fight.” he almost snarled, rising from his chair in a single, fluid motion. He walked across the bar, moving into sight and standing behind the grinning idiot leering at the Landen woman he didn’t know.

Excuse me, Miss. You remind me of someone I know. Would you share a drink with me until I remember whom?” Francois asked.

Ten minutes left. Perhaps I can make this work.

Yeah, right.

There had never been a time in her life when Alixen had been a "normal" child. She had spent her youth trailing after her father and older brother, racing up the rigging like it wasn't dozens of feet above the deck and the harbor beyond. More days than not, she'd returned home soaking wet, or at the very least, sea-salt coated. Her mother gave up on her entirely, knowing there was no way to keep her precocious child from doing whatever it was she chose.

The wildness of Alixen Perrot had only grown as she aged. Never did she settle down, or find something that grounded her. Well, the wolf-boy grounded her, in as much as anything could, in as much as the spirits had told her and the Roux boys were important. They needed her. It was her duty, even if it did make things complicated.

Like this. This male who thought he could just stare at her, devour her with his eyes, eat her in his mind. He didn't know who she was, or what she was. He didn't know anything at all. Idiot.

Her nails were almost to his face, long and jagged, ready to make him bleed for his offense to her. And just when she was about to strike, his voice ran over her, pulling her, calling to her like the sea did. He was the sea, of the sea, smelled of the salt from her childhood. He'd been on land less than a day she could feel it. More than anything she longed to join him, wanted to return with him out to the blue. Staying on land had never been what was meant for her, and it wouldn't last. But for now, for right now, she had a thing to do, and their name was Roux.

She moved without thinking, without needing to. With all the agility of years of scampering along rigging could grant her, she lunged at him. One foot hit a chair, the other the table, as she launched over the fucker who had just been so incredibly rude to her, flying through the air towards the familiarity of the male who had spoken.

"Noose!" she cried out happily, the sound of her voice just about as different as possible from the hiss that had just left her lips.

If she really were a snake, she would have struck him, fangs sinking into his skin, pumping his flesh full of venom. She had seen what snake venom did to blood on the islands, watched the old woman milk the venom right out of a snake's mouth, never getting bit, like some kind of mystical protection wrapped around her and held her close, never letting her fear that the snake might bite. Dropped into a wooden bowl filled with blood, the blood turned thick, thicker, until it was one large glomp of red. If that happened in someone's veins, it would hurt, she had though. Hurt like turning to thickened vines from the inside out.

But she wasn't actually a snake. She was just playing today. And so when she flung herself at him, instead of sinking her fangs into his throat, she wrapped her arms and legs around his body, entangling herself with him as she kissed him hard on his cheek. The edge of her dress rose, revealing her long, pale legs and the edge of her underwear. It didn't matter to her if he had been prepared for her weight or not, she would hold him tight, whether he caught her or whether she rode him down to the floor.

Noose!

Hello, Seagull. You look lovely, as always...even if you’re barely dressed. Not that I'm complaining.

That damned nickname would never leave him, not so long as the Landen woman lived. She launched herself at him in a move that looked more at home on the deck the Nomad’s Dream than it did in a dive bar like the one he stood in now. If anything, he was glad that she didn’t maim the man. His friends might have backed off to start, but once their pal gathered up his anger, they’d probably try to harm her.

Then Franc would have to kill them all and blow his cover.

She clung to him and he held her aloft, uncaring of the sight they made, tangled up in each other as they stood in the middle of the bar. Alixen Perrot cared little for what people thought of her and it showed in her manner of dress. She kissed his cheek and Francois wondered if that was solely because she thought he had her particular brand of poison close at hand.

The man who’d leered at her turned and looked at Noose and Seagull, clearly unhappy that he’d been thwarted at claiming his assumed prize.

We was havin’ us a private conversation, pally. Maybe youse ought to run along and let me and the lady get to know each other.” he said, yellowed teeth flashing in a good smile as he looked at Francois, who looked back him over Alixen’s shoulder. This was not an ideal position for anything except...well, things he wouldn’t do to a woman in a place like this. He sighed and remembered that there was, in fact, a woman present and that he needed to mind his tongue.

I think the lady has made her interest clear, my friend. No shame in walking away. Night is on the way and there are other fish in the sea. You just met a better fisherman, is all.” Francois said.

Maybe you better get outta my bar, Noose the Fisherman.” the man said. Only now did his friends stand up as well, a show of solidarity against the outsider who’d snatched away their friend’s chance at a good time. Francois chuckled to himself. He could kill every man here with a bit of effort, but that would put her in danger. His ego demanded that he answer the man’s challenge.

But he had more people to consider than just Alixen. People who counted on him coming home in once piece.

The charm of this place wore off an hour ago. We’ll move along. But I’ll remember you, friend. We’ll see each other again, I think.” Francois said, staring the man down.

For your sake, youse better hope we don’t.” the yellow-toothed man said.

Seagull, as nice as this is...we’re going to have to walk out of here the old-fashioned way.” Francois said.

Curled up in his arms, wrapped around him as if she were a snake and he was a GIANT TREE she could climb and climb and climb and never reach the top of, she felt so happy. It poured out of her, swirling around him and feeding back into her body, soaking in through wherever her body touched his. Her Noose. He was here. She knew he would be. He would never let her down. He would be there for her no matter what. They stood on opposite sides of a war and it wasn't enough to keep them from winding their way back to each other. He would be there, forever and ever.

The rude man, idiot man, snake bait man, turned and spoke. His voice felt slimy, like something she needed to bathe after. She bared her teeth as he spoke, annoyed that he would have the indecency to interrupt this lovely happy moment she was in the middle of having. Did no one have any manners anymore?

She smiled brightly when Francois spoke, telling the man that she had made her choice and it was obviously not him. Like it ever would be. She nuzzled into his neck as if she could somehow crawl inside him and away from the disgusting man with the yellow teeth and foul breath, pushing against the pulse in his neck like she could simply slide down into his veins and be apart of him instead of clinging to him the way she was.

But then... then he called Francois Noose.

That name did not belong in his mouth. He had not earned it. He didn't know what it meant or where it came from or why she used it. It wasn't his. A slow hiss spilled from between her lips, turning in Francois's arms to look more fully at the waste of skin that was taking up their time, that wouldn't leave her be, that didn't understand what it meant to be on the wrong side of Alixen Perrot.

She began to whisper beneath her breath, words that these men wouldn't understand but Francois would recognize the cadence of. Only his voice pulled her back, calling her Seagull, leaving her turning very slowly to look at him. Blue fire danced in her eyes. She rubbed the tip of her nose against his cheek in a sudden movement, before letting go of him entirely and dropping to the floor. The words continued, sibilant, ancient, calling on spirits that these uneducated men did not want to cross.

Stalking the few feet forward towards the disgusting man, she stopped. She wanted to take his eyes. She wanted to slice open his corneas so he could never look at anyone the way he had looked at her. But there was no need. He would be dead soon. The spirits whispered to her, coming at her call, filling her mind with their presence. No. There was no need to blind him. But she couldn't simply let him believe this kind of behavior was acceptable, either.

"I'm. Not. Yours," she said sharply, before pulling her fist back and punching him hard across the face. There was a moment of shocked silence, before the bar erupted with noise. One of the man's friends reached for her, grabbing her arm roughly. She looked down at his hand, wrapping almost entirely around her bicep, and looked back up at him.

"Oh, now that was a mistake," she said, staring into his eyes. Less than a moment later, he fell, releasing her arm, eyes glassy with lack of life. She smiled down at him. "I warned you."

I was so close.

Francois was ready to walk out of the bar and forget the place existed. He had his prize (sort of) and there was nothing left to do but move on and count his winnings. Later, he would look back on this moment and admit to himself that he should have seen this coming. He should have just killed the Yellow-Toothed Man and his friends and headed back to his ship. Sure, he wouldn’t have been able to spend any time with Alixen and someone would come looking for the killer eventually, but he’d be at sea where he could wait for the heat to die down before returning again in a few months.

Now he had to run and take her with him. He had no place to run to.

Several things happened at once and it was all Francois could do to raise his hand put a power bolt through the eyeball of the Yellow-Toothed Man’s other friends. Blood and brains landed on another pair of his friends as the body hit the floor. Francois took aim and fired once more, but a larger, grey-haired man ducked the shot. Meanwhile, Alixen dropped a man who’d dared touch her with little more than a touch of her own. Francois had never understood the power that Alixen claimed to possess, as it didn’t fit inside of any box he could name. All he knew was that she had moments of insight and clarity that would make a Black Widow sit up and take notice.

The large gray-haired man fired a power bolt at Francois and he dove, tackling Alixen to the ground with him. He covered her, knowing that the Landen woman couldn’t shield herself, no matter how good her deals with the “spirits” were.

Seagull, why do you always take me to places where people are trying to kill me?” he asked, flipping one of the tables onto its side for some momentary cover.

We have to go!

One moment she was standing, staring down at the man at her feet. She wondered what had happened to him. Heart attack? Poison. Sudden bleeding in the brain. Something that could be perfectly explained. Bad timing. Coincidence. Nothing to do with her protectors, those spirits who danced around her slender flame.

The next moment Noose slammed into her, taking her to the ground and covering her with his body. She stared up at him and smiled. "Are you sure that's me? Your crew says people try to kill you basically everywhere you go. I think there's a possibility that..." She was cut off as a power bolt hit the table he had pulled up in front of them as a kind of shield. He moved further behind it, pressing down against her tightly as he did.

She wiggled against him, pressing herself more firmly into his hands. "Noose, you know how much I enjoy you being on top of me, but we're in the middle of a fight," she said, nipping at his neck playfully with her teeth. He seemed very annoyed. This was not the first time he had gotten them out of a situation like this and she was absolutely, completely, and utterly certain it would not be the last.

"You are going to pay for this, Seagull. I expect to be handsomely rewarded for saving this shapely ass of yours." Her only response was to lick his cheek. She was about to say something about how she had never shorted him in the past, when a second power bolt came and shattered the wood of the table. Now she was annoyed. She rolled out from under him and stood, facing the man who was attacking them. She started walking toward him, fury in her eyes. He faltered for a minute, staring at the pale girl with the dark hair and blue eyes. A power bolt shot past her and hit him in the center of his chest. She smiled as he went down.

Suddenly she was running being pulled along behind Noose. She laughed, trying to keep up with his long stride, tearing out of the bar into the twilight streets. She broke free of his hold and gained her footing, running with the wind whipping through her hair. She ducked down an alley, then another, then a third, before leaping into what looked like a deep pit with no visible bottom.

Francois just shook his head at Seagull’s antics. The woman had mastered flirtation at inappropriate times. If Francois had a mark for every time she’d flirted with him while had a knife in his side, or while he was being shot at or chased by people who wanted to kill him, he could buy a Hayllian escort to service him for the rest of his days and have enough left over for a fleet of ships and the crews to man all of them. She even managed to wiggle her hips against him, a possible taste of what he’d get later...if he was foolish enough to stay.

The smart play would be to get her out of here, then split up and let her go back to the man who’d ruined his life with his takeover of Chaillot.

He killed another man who’d advanced on her after she moved away from him, clearing their way to the door. Francois grabbed Seagull and ran for it before someone called the Guard or recognized who stood among them. Once they were out of the bar, she shrugged off his arm and lead the way to...somewhere. Francois realized that, with his luck, Alixen would lead them to another bar to repeat the fun she’d just had in punching out random people. He laughed, unable to help himself.

No matter how she vexed him, she was still a great time.

They ducked down several alleys before jumping into what appeared to be a bottomless pit. Thankfully, it only dropped about five feet, enough to lead to a small entrance beneath the street. Francois pulled out the webbed baton that his ship’s Weather Witch had given him upon learning that he couldn’t summon Witchflame. Well, she’d given it to him after laughing at him for five minutes straight. He channeled a pulse of his Opal into the stick and it flared to life, lighting their way in the dark.

Now that he saw the entrance to the thieves’ tunnels beneath Beldon Mor, Francois knew exactly where they could hide.

Follow me, Seagull. Don’t get lost. Otherwise you might not find your way out.

They walked for half an hour before they emerged in a less-than-pristine part of Beldon Mor, a slum where even the Guard didn’t come withour good reason. The people here were tight knit and usually not interested in helping law-abiding citizens find their way.

They arrived a small, white-stone flat at the end of row of houses in various states of disrepair The door was locked when Francois tried it, so he lifted the doormat. The key wasn’t there, either, so he reached up and checked the door frame.

Here we go.” he said, his voice triumphant. He unlocked the door (and the web guarding it) and pushed it open so that Alixen could head inside.

Giving one last glance up the street to make sure they weren’t followed, Francois headed inside and closed the door.

Alixen followed, followed, followed, sometimes skipping, sometimes swirling, sometimes running head long into the dark. She felt free. She always felt free this near to the sea. It was just this time, the sea wasn't the ocean. The sea was the man she called Noose, smelling of the white foam crashing against the ocean. He didn't need to worry about her getting lost. She wouldn't get lost, couldn't get lost, not if where you are is where you want to end up. Then there is no lost.

It was night when they emerged and she stared up at the sky. The stars were just beginning to glitter down on them. She held her hands up above her head, collecting the bits of starlight on her palms while Noose searched for the key. There was magic everywhere, if you just knew where to look for it.

When her Noose found the key, she went bounding inside the house ahead of him, trusting him entirely. He wouldn't take them somewhere she wouldn't be safe. He would never lead her into an ambush. Not on purpose. More often than not, that was her doing, despite her teasing in the bar. She wasn't wrong, he did get in trouble all the time, totally on his own. That was the way of her Noose. But she was the one who ran headlong into the night without fear, and he was the one who caught her before she plummeted over the cliff.

When he stepped into the house and turned away from the door, she was right there, standing in the hallway, blocking his way to the rest of the house. He could easily carry her, but that was the point, if he wanted to get further, he's have to pick her up to do it. She smiled brilliant bright, and wrapped her arms around his neck, raising on her toes to reach him, kissing him fully on the mouth.

He tasted of salt and endless horizons. She fed at his lips, hungry, needy, before pressing her tongue along his. It had been months and yet he was still so familiar to her. She wanted to kiss him here in the doorway, to fuck him here in the doorway, to get high while fucking him here in the doorway. She wanted everything all at once.

He reached down and lifted her up, grabbing her ass as he did so. She wrapped her legs around his waist, continuing to kiss him as he walked into the house. An instant later, she was flying through the air, laughing as she did so, before hitting the couch he had thrown her onto. She stretched out her limbs, baring nearly all of her pale long legs, and made herself comfortable, watching him as he looking around. "Whatcha looking for?" she asked. "Are we expecting company? Haven't done that in a while."

Her kiss was as addictive as the drugs she imbibed.

Francois had not been attracted to Landen women before or since Alixen Perrot. She was unique, as was her effect on him. He’d had to break the kiss, against his personal desires, because the reason for his showing up here lay between them. Despite her current level of calm, it never lasted long before she wanted to know where the nightmare weed was being hidden. If he didn’t give it to her, she’d start climbing all over him, searching his body to find it. He wasn’t hiding it on his person, but that wouldn’t stop her from getting angry if she felt like she was being jerked around.

I’m making sure we weren’t followed. I don’t expect company tonight, but I also didn’t expect a bar fight, either.” Francois said, though his words held no heat. Bar fights and ship battles were his lot in life, one that he was slowly growing to accept. Francois took off his coat and draped it over the back of a nearby chair while he looked over the woman from him from her head to her toes. Her long legs were on display. Francois wanted to part them and have his way with her, but he forced himself to remember that he was Blood.

His passions were not safe for her, no matter what she believed to the contrary.

Besides, if your friends from the Territory Court show up looking for trouble, they’ll find it.” he said, giving her an even look. The Roux brothers had been a pain in his ass for years now, one with no definitive cure. His Seagull was deeply protective of her, enough that Francois believed that, if it came down to a matter of him or them, Alixen would choose them every time. Francois accepted that without feeling betrayed or angry, for she knew that he’d make the same choice between her and his crew.

But the idea of ending all of this madness by killing one or both of the Roux brothers in a straight-out fight was enough to make him wish, briefly, that they did find a way to locate her.

He conjured a small wooden box and offered it to her.

Three months of your chosen recreation, Alixen. Try not to smoke it all at once, no?

Alixen's movements were often erratic, sudden, as if her entire body was a coiled spring that was waiting to be released. All she needed was for the latch to be released, or the trigger to be pulled, and she could go from complete stillness to a flying run. Stretched out as she was on the couch, her arms above her head reaching as high as she could go, her dress barely covering the very tops of her thighs. She looked like she could lounge there indefinitely, until the exact moment Noose produced the box.

Bounding upwards, propelled as if by a force greater than herself, she was not only on her feet but slamming into his body as her hands grasped the wooden box and its precious contents. Fingers tightening hard around her prize, she sprinkled his face, neck, and cheeks in kisses. "Thank you, thank you, thank you!" she said, nearly bouncing out of her skin with excitement. "You're the absolute BEST!"

The only thing that made her happier than having her stash replenished was her actually getting high again for the first time in days. She dropped to the floor and opened the box, sorting through what he had brought her as she sat with her legs spread out to either side of her. Her eyes glittered as she looked up at him. "I'll make it last," she said. "I promise." They both knew she would do her best, but, as with every time, she would likely run out before she saw him again. Not by much, maybe a few days, maybe a week. But it would mean that, like now, she was even more eager to see him than she would be otherwise.

Not that she didn't adore her Noose. She did. She had known him before she had become the keeper of the Roux boys, and he understood her in ways few could. But it was more than that. They'd been through it together. And there was no real replacement for someone who had been through it with you.

Abandoning her treasure on the floor temporarily, she crawled towards where he still stood, sliding her hands up his legs when she reached him, slithering up his calves, past his knees, up the outsides of his thighs until she reached his hips, her fingers digging in to pull him even closer to her. She rubbed her cheek against his slacks before looking up at him, her blue eyes sparkling. "You're not going to fight me about thanking you this time, are you? You know I always win in the end, Noose. It'll be so much easier if you just," her teeth found the end of his belt and she tugged gently. "...let me."

The fervor of her gratitude for providing her with poison should have bothered him more. Francois did not tell people how to live their lives or what to put in their bodies. He did not judge, for he had his own vices and issues, ways to medicate his own pain that others found destructive. But the way her eyes lit up just a touch brighter upon seeing the nightmare weed sparked an irrational jealousy that Francois refused to acknowledge. She promised to make it last, like she always did, but Francois was already arranging his next visit in his mind. Perhaps they’d just meet here next time.

They'd fall into their old patterns from there.

Her kisses made him smile despite his general annoyance. She had her prize and Francois actually expected her to get started on her high. He had no idea how long she’d been out of it; her focus during the fight and subsequent flight was unusual. Based on that clarity, Francois surmised that she couldn’t have been out for very long at all.

He’d seen her when she was in withdrawals. It was one of the things that made him swear to never bring her the weed again, to make her get clean at the cost of her power no matter how she raged at him or hated him.

She’s not the only one who can’t keep her promises.

He watched her crawl across the floor, her prize abandoned for a moment. He could have walked out after giving her the drugs, but he didn’t. He’d hoped for this. He wanted her to ask him before she got high, while her mind was sober. It was the only way to know that she really wanted it, that he wasn’t taking advantage. He couldn’t read her thoughts like he could a Blood Female; she’d die immediately and Francois would create even greater enemies than he had moments before.

Alixen pulled her way up his thighs, rubbing her cheeks against him as she pulled him closer. He didn’t fight her. He could offer up some token defense, but he didn’t bother. No matter what his words said to the contrary, his cock told the truth. He hardened with each passing second as she teased him.

You know I always win in the end.

He wanted to slap her for saying it but she’d enjoy it. They’d played that game before.

No one’s stopping you, Lix. You started a fight tonight. I hope you’re extra grateful for the lengths I went to in order to find you.” he said, reaching down and fisting his hand in her hair.

Cold blue eyes looked down into hers.

Show me.

Noose's hand fisted in her hair and she rolled her neck back, straining against him, pleasure and pain mixing together and sending shivers down her spine. She wanted to get high. And she would. But it was worth waiting if it meant that she could feel herself sliding into oblivion while his cock was buried deep inside her body. Just a little longer. The wait would make it sweeter. Just a little...

She exhaled against the strain of his hand, blue fire meeting blue ice as she stared up into his gaze from her knees. Her fingers gripped his hips as her head dipped forward and she loosed his belt with her lips and teeth, enjoying the taste of leather across her tongue. She held his slacks taunt which allowed her to fasten her teeth against the button hole, pull one way slightly and then the other, and soon she had the access she craved. She rubbed her lips against the cloth of his underwear, pressing against the hardness of him. Her breath ran hot against his skin through the cloth, teasing him more , knowing that his patience would likely last only a few moments longer before he took matters into his own hands.

Her hands yanked down, pulling his slacks and underwear with it, releasing his cock in one motion. She caught him easily in her mouth, avoiding any pain or discomfort from the roughened way she had stripped him, settling his swollen crown against the soft wet of her tongue. She slicked his shaft in one, deep motion before wrapping her hand at the base of him. She began to work him with her mouth and hand together, sliding over him eagerly.

Alixen was enthusiastic about everything in life. Sex was no exception. Her enjoyment could be easily felt as she showed her Noose just how truly grateful she was for him. For him bringing her the nightmare weed. Keeping her connected to the spirits. Killing for her. That one always drew a lot of extra gratitude from the raven haired medium. Her spirits had told her she would always be safe with him. And she always was.

She moaned her enjoyment against his cock. Just when she hit a rhythm that was clearly bringing him closer to orgasm, she would change what she was doing, wanting to draw it out and drive him mad at the same time. She looked up at him, mischief dancing across her features. She knew his tolerance for her antics would grow shorter the more times she did it, but it only put her that much closer to feeling him inside her, and feeling the nightmare weed take hold of her every thought and sensation.

Alixen’s slick little mouth worked his shaft, earning the first of several moans from the former naval commander. Her mouth always, always, always knew how to weaken his resolve without uttering a single word. Every time he told himself that this was the last time they’d be together, Alixen shattered his resolve with her hands, her mouth, and her cunt. They both knew the steps in this dance, where it lead every time they saw each other. From here, it was a few short steps to her lighting up and riding him to her heart’s content. From there, the only thing that remained was to take his pleasure, which she’d give him for as long as he desired.

They could have found a thousand other ways to relate to each other, a thousand other ways to exist without attempting to destroy their mutual resolve, their minds, and the shreds of their honor.

This was the only one that made any sense to either of them.

Unngh...more, Lix…more...” he demanded, letting the Landen control her pace. It was tempting for him to take over, to fuck her mouth and throat like some young sailor getting his first bit of action after months at sea. Francois, her Noose, liked giving her this control. He eased his grasp on her hair, though he kept her from withdrawing too far from his cock during her ministrations. Every time he wanted to fire his seed down her throat, she changed her rhythm and broke his concentration, blunting his climax. He groaned, his control much improved, but fraying by the moment.

He looked down, forcing himself to watch her work and found her look up at him, taunting him with her ice-blue gaze. If he’d come on her face once, he’d done it a hundred times. He loved blowing his load on her skin, marking her in ways the Roux brothers would never know. The idea of fucking their self-appointed protector and then killing their captains and burning their ships heightened Francois’s enjoyment of the moment.

Someday, he was going to bend her over their rail of his ship, one hand fisted in her hair, so that they could watch Chaillot’s navy burn while they celebrated the end of the Roux family.

That image pushed him over the edge.

Francois’s orgasm came upon him like a sudden storm, a deep groan that barely registered as her name the only warning she received. He spent himself and then leaned back against the door, sinking to the ground. He vanished his shirt and his slacks, working to catch his breath and string together a pair of thoughts that didn’t demand that she keep sucking until he was hard once more.

I think you should get started on your gift. We have a long night ahead, Alixen.

She loved this part. The first steps in their dance, his fighting for control to hold out a while longer, her fighting for control to not abandon his cock and plummet into her high. Every moan, groan, and whisper of her name swirled around her, enveloping her, pulling at her, causing her body to respond. Her free hand snaked over his flesh, nails grazing over his skin, her eyes entrancing as any snake charmers ever were.

Her Noose enjoyed marking her, leaving his fingerprints in stark purples against her pale skin, perfect indentations of his teeth seared into her flesh, and staining her face with his seed. She knew how much he loved it, often pushed him for it, pulling from him the most intense orgasm she could with her hands and mouth and the very essence of what she was. Wild moonlight wrapped in a small package, spirit child who walked between the worlds, dancing beneath the stars and letting her voice raise to howl with the wolves. Not the human wolf. He didn't howl, although she often encouraged him to. He would feel better after, she knew.

Always tempted to follow their patterns, knowing step by step what would bring him, cause him to come so hard he could barely think after. She didn't know if it was like this with his other lovers, didn't really care, all she knew in this moment was the familiar feel of his cock straining and pulsing against the inside of her mouth, could feel the restraint he offered to grant her control over her own movements. There was nothing forbidden between them, no promises, no expectations, no agreements, other than I will find my way back to you, an understanding that was most often unspoken and if it ever was, batted away with laughter and mockery from the other.

Tempted to let him spill his seed across his skin, she chose a different path this time, craving to taste him against her tongue, salt like the sea spilling down her throat as she drank him down, and down, and down. He always came so hard for her, long moments passing before finally he had spent himself, her name an echo on his lips, the spirits gathering around her slender form whispering yesssss. They liked him, always had, guiding her back to the wayward commander whenever it was meant.

Lix slid her mouth off of him as he slid to the ground, pale blue eyes watching him, tilting her head in curiosity and awe at the Opal male before her. The Blood were other, and yet so was she in her own way, not really fitting anyway and not caring. She wouldn't trade her connection to the spirit world for anything imaginable.

At his words she scampered across the floor, seizing up the box he had brought her. From beneath her dress and pulled a thin braided rope, a pipe of opal crystal hanging from it. Opal from the mines, opal from the sea, different than Opal from the Darkness, but opal just the same. Her fingers made quick work of motions so familiar she could do them without thinking. She crawled back to him, slipping lightly into his lap, straddling him where he sat.

"Of all the Blood in all the land, I found the one who can't conjure a flame," she teased, using flint to strike a flame, bringing it to light the nightmare weed that flared for just a moment before colored smoke flowed forth, wrapping around her, sinking into her pores as she pulled the smoke into her lungs deeply. Her head tipped back and her back arched, feeling the drug start to take hold. The spirits grew louder, welcoming her back amongst them, urging her to take more, fall deeper. It was just the initial sensation, and it would grow and grow until she was nearly lost to it, ecstasy and elation mixing in her blood like an explosion.

Alixen shifted forward, pressing her body more against his, before she brought the pipe back to her lips. Her eyes slid closed, one hand coming to grip the back of his neck, fingers twisting in his hair. When she looked at him next, her focus was wavering. He'd told her that her eyes looked different when she was high. She wondered if that's how they looked now. Noose looked like something to devour, something she wanted, ached for, needed. The spirits whispered again yessss and she pressed her mouth to his, kissing him like she would die without his touch, pulling him into her. Time slid away as she kissed him, grinding her hips against him until finally she felt him stir again, enough for her to slide a hand down his body and grip him, stroke him, position him so that she could slide her body down onto his, moaning loudly as he speared her, as she enclosed him deep within her slick folds.

Francois felt fortunate that Alixen did not possess true Craft, that she did not have the power to seduce him through the power of the Abyss. Had she possessed that kind of power, the sea captain would be as addicted to her as she was to the nightmare weed he’d brought. She swallowed his seed without complaint. Indeed, she appeared to enjoy the act nearly as much as the pipe she’d produced the moment he’d sat down to collect his thoughts. He still having trouble locating them all so he did not immediately see her return to him at the door.

But once he felt her closing in, he knew the next steps of their dance.

Of all the Blood in all the land, I found the one who can't conjure a flame…

He shrugged. “If we were perfect, we wouldn't be any fun.” he said, winking at her.

Alixen smoked her pipe and rolled her hips against him. Her wetness and her moans earned a growl from Francois. He vanished his shirt and her dress, pulling her chest against his so that there was no space between them. Their lips met and Francois kissed her quickly before moving to her jawbone, her neck, her throat. He bit her, hard enough to mark but not enough to draw blood. Her hips moved quicker still, waking his cock from its slumber. There was a bit of discomfort as he hardened for her so soon after his orgasm, but that sensation vanished when Alixen reached down between her thighs to stroke him to full readiness.

And then she sheathed him inside her and it was his turn to moan loudly, his breath coming in sharp, deep gasps.

Fuck me.” he demanded, not caring that she was going to smoke her pipe and ride him to her heart’s content. She would likely climax before him, but that didn’t matter. She was all hunger, fire and sex and smoke, filling his lungs as riding his cock with a fury that few other women matched. His mouth found her left nipple and he sucked at it, grunting each time she drove down on his cock.

Night, yes! Harder! Faster!” he said, every word some variation of encouragement for Alixen’s fluid movements.

If she fucked him like this for the rest of the night, he didn’t give a damn how much nightmare weed she smoked.

He’d bring her a forest next time.

"Fuck me."

The words drifted over her, swirling around her like smoke, so much smoke. Her lungs burned deliciously, her thoughts spun, and her hips moved.

How they moved.

She rode her Noose, rocking, sliding, plunging his shaft into her core. She allowed her weight to drive him as deep as he could possibly venture, finding the end of her repeatedly before she would grind against him, rubbing him against the slick walls of her cunt until she felt so dizzy she laughed, tipping her head back, bearing her throat for him to kiss, or lick, or bite, knowing that she would wear his marks for days after they had parted.

Smoke. Fire. Breath. Moan. Pleasure. Breath. Smoke. Burrrrn. Sear. More. More. More.

"Noose," she moaned, moving faster, harder, slowing only when she pulled more smoke into her lungs, until finally she set the pipe down, now having both hands free, touching, reaching, grabbing, she found his lips, the taste of her high heady on her lips, earthy and dark, the spirits danced in the echoes of the smoke that surrounded them. They whispered against her skin, every part of her feeling alive and needing at the same time, hands in his hair, hands over his shoulders, hands wrapped around his back, crushing her chest against his as rode him harder, and harder, until she tumbled over the edge of pleasure, screaming as his teeth found her skin yet again, his hands gripping her, on and on she tumbled, still riding him, still there, mostly there, definitely there.

Her fingers raked over him, skin slippery with sweat easily tearing beneath her nails.

Again the wave struck her, and still she didn't stop, burying her forehead against his shoulder, his fingers feeling like he was lighting her skin on fire, the most magnificent fire, every place he touched her, her hips responding even more vigorously than before.

She could taste the salt of him still on her tongue, his seed, his sweat, his very essence. He was of the sea, a creature that belonged to the deep, and Lix followed him down, down, down until everything was dark blue and floating, the waves so far above them they could barely see them pass, but her body still responded, clenching tight around his cock with each orgasm, slicking him further as she came and came.

Sweat glistened against her skin, slow drops falling between her breasts, becoming a creature of salt just like her Noose. She ran her tongue over his bottom lip before pulling at it with her teeth, kissing him with all the passion that could possibly be channeled through her. Her passion, the spirit's passion, the passion of the sea itself spilled from her lips into his mouth, insistent, needy, feeding at his mouth like she might die if he stopped. Her body convulsed against his and she cried out into his mouth, her scream muffled by his lips, his tongue, his teeth as finally, finally, she settled against him, wrapping herself around him as tightly as she could, shivering in the aftermath of the depths he allowed her to take them, sinking under until the only thing left to breathe in was her.

Buried inside of Alixen, Francois could forget just how far off-course his life had become.

He didn’t smoke but contact with the Nightmare Weed’s smoke altered his perceptions while she smoked. He coughed once, then again, and shook his head as the room disappeared around them. Their bodies floated among the stars, connected solely by his cock lodged in her cunt, her slick folds milking him for all he was worth. Moans and sighs escaped his lips even as he kissed her mouth, her chin, her throat. He marked her skin with his teeth, the closest he ever came to possessing her.

Yes, Seagull. Yes...gimme what’s mine…” he demanded, encouraging her to ride him harder and faster.

Each time she came down, he thrust upward into her, the rhythmic sound of skin-against-skin the only sound to fill the house for some time. They were living in a dream of their own making, brought on the by the nightmare weed, a world where they didn’t have to recognize that they were on opposing sides of a war.

She came again and wrapped herself around him, her legs around his waist. Noose, her Noose, wasted no time asking what she wanted. He untangled her legs from around him and laid her on her stomach on the floor. He climbed atop her, pushing his cock into her slick depths from behind. He ignored the tight star of her ass for now, knowing that he’d have even that before the night was through.

He slammed himself into her, over and over again, grunting as he enjoyed the feel of having her pinned beneath him. They rarely used a bed. It occurred to Francois, once, that they might enjoy their meetings in a bed, but there was never one close enough to contain them.

His right arm snaked beneath hers and Francois grasped Alixen’s throat, his grip painfully tight. She’d called him Noose because of the first time he’d grabbed her by the throat. Granted, they weren’t nearly as friendly back then as they were tonight. Back then, she’d feared he’d kill her by taking away her air.

Now, the wild look in her eyes begged him for it.

As always, he was happy to oblige.

The smoke (or was it her?) urged him on, demanded that he take all her body could give him despite the difference in power between them.

The floor was cool against her stomach, chilling her breasts and causing the pert peaks of her nipples to harden. She lay her cheek against the floor, her breath unfurling in long, curling streams. She could feel him moving behind her, her Noose, her beautiful Noose. His body cast a long shadow over hers, the weight of him a glorious feeling against her back. She arched her hips up just enough to give him access to what he sought and he slammed his cock inside her.

She was already so wet from riding him to some long forgotten number of orgasms. His deep, hard thrust brought her screaming. He drove himself into her core, taking her with a force she only allowed him, only trusted of him. Somehow he understood the line where too much would shatter her, overwhelm me, leave her a shell of what she used to be or worse, nothing but ash between his fingertips.

She was smoke and fire and sex and magic, spirit touched, the Landen wisp who walked among the Blood. She was chosen, cursed and blessed, mad with laughter and the voices that consumed her, revealing their secrets to her ears alone. Her body was a tool for them a medium by which their will could be passed through into the waking world.

But with Noose, her body was a tool of pleasure for them both. In the deep, dark, quiet that they didn't dare disturb with anything but the sounds of their breath, their moans, their wild exclamations and of course of their bodies slamming into each other, Noose and his Seagull found completion and release in ways they couldn't find with anyone else. She might be addicted to her nightmare weed and he might be addicted to her, but there was no question that they were both addicted to the chase, or to the crashing waves of the sea.

His hand slipped beneath her and seized her throat. Her cunt immediately grew slicker against his pounding cock, the way it always did when he choked her. The wet, strangled noises she made always drove him harder, further, to take more of her. Sometimes he stopped and let her breath. Sometimes, his hand pulsed against her throat until she lost all awareness of the outside world and slipped full away with the spirits.

Regardless, he was the best fuck of her life.

In the dead of night, with no one else to witness it, Francois Toussaint treated Alixen Perrot like his personal whore. He did things to her that he’d not do to other women, Blood or Landen. He left marks. He left bruises. He choked her until she nearly blacked out, dangerously close to the line between fetish and the desire to actually do her harm. He’d never admit aloud how much he enjoyed hurting his Seagull, how much he enjoyed listening to her beg him to do so. A voice in the back of his mind cursed him for his savageness, for being the same kind of man that he claimed to hate in Etienne Roux.

If he cared about her, truly, he wouldn’t feed Alixen’s addiction to Nightmare Weed. He wouldn’t let her get high so that her lack of inhibitions allowed him to treat her as he did.

He squelched that voice and buried it beneath a legion of justifications and desires, using that fury to fuck her hard enough that she wouldn’t be able to hide fully what he’d done to her.

Sometime, late in the night, they finished, the beast inside him sated.

For now.

He’d dozed lightly for a time, but then Francois woke and stared at the ceiling. She slept lightly, despite their exertions. Moving quietly, Francois peeked beneath the blanket. He saw some of the bruises and marks starting to form. He saw the places that his Seagull would be sore come sunrise. He dug deep within himself and summoned the same resolve found after every encounter with the Landen woman.

This is the last time. Never again.

He was lying to himself, of course. He knew it as well as she did. There was always next time And the time after that. And the time after that. Eventually, he would either stop coming here altogether, betraying her by vanishing from her life as if he’d never been...or she’d die with his hands wrapped around her throat and his cock buried so deep within her that her last words would be a strangled “Thank you, Noose.” that he wouldn’t even register until he felt himself empty inside her cooling corpse.

Would he regret it if if he killed her?

She shifted in his arms and it took an act of will not to put his hand between her thighs and massage her awake. He couldn’t imagine how sore she was right now, but it had to be bad enough that she’d turn him down. And yet he felt himself hardening against her at the thought.

What am I going to do with you, my Seagull? How long until we realize that we’ll only destroy each other, in the end?” he whispered softly, kissing her shoulder.

He let his thoughts chase each other around while he inhaled the scent of her hair.

Alixen stirred, moving closer to the source of the warmth that was spilling over her shoulder but not the rest of her body. She pressed herself into his arms, her hand raising to his neck and pulling him toward her to kiss him before she had even opened her eyes. Her Noose was like a homing beacon always calling her home, back into their little world where his teeth were sharp against his skin and the Nightmare Weed seared her lungs.

Her lips met his and she whimpered against his mouth, whether it was from the cut at the corner of her lip or any other of a few dozen bruises and wounds there was no way to know. Still, she pressed herself closer to him, aware in her half sleep state that his body responded to her even after so many hours of vicious fucking. Noose never seemed spent, not truly, not for longer than a nap could cure.

Without warning, her body went slack in his arms. Her back arched and words rolled off of her tongue thick as the smoke from the nightmare weed earlier. Her breathing was jagged, caught in the spirit world she would say if she was conscious enough to speak anything but the words that came crawling up from her belly, demanding to be granted voice.

"She tried to chain the dark and the dark bit back. Soft cream is now blue and purple. Can't wear that again, it's meant to be white not scarlet red like the Jewel of the sailor girl who doesn't know how to be a Queen." She sucked in another breath, sitting up in his arms, her breasts bare, and Noose's teeth marks standing out stark in the pale light against her skin.

She blinked multiple times, coming back to herself, as much as Francois' Seagull ever did come back and she tipped her head back and to the side, cracking it sharply. "Anything good this time?" she asked. Her voice was barely more than a whisper now, showing clearly the way his hands around her throat had harmed her. She would heal. She always did. Until she didn't.

It wasn't the first time Noose had seen her in such a state. It wouldn't be the last. She knew he would always come back for her, always find her, always bring her what she needed no matter how many times he might promise himself he wouldn't. She knew about the promises, the crushed them under their feet like Autumn leaves every time they met.

Her Noose would never leave her, not until the day he earned his name in full. The spirits had shown her, and knowing it would be with him and at his hands filled her with a sense of joy and calm she knew she could never explain to him. All the things she told him, she always kept this one back. He didn't need to know about that. He'd learn when it happened, which was the way it was supposed to be.

She tried to chain the dark and the dark bit back. Soft cream is now blue and purple. Can't wear that again, it's meant to be white not scarlet red like the Jewel of the sailor girl who doesn't know how to be a Queen.

He never had a damned quill or parchment when he needed it.

Alixen’s words seared themselves into his ears and mind. Francois had seen her get one of her “visits” from the spirits that she claimed followed her around at all times. They tended to speak to her more when she’d smoked a dose of her weed potent enough to kill several men. She consumed the stuff at a rate that Francois considered frightening. But there was no denying the veracity of her visions.

When she spoke, she spoke the truth.

Just as soon as it started, it was over. Alixen came to, slowly, and asked him if she’d said anything good during her visit. She knew when they happened but she never remembered the words themselves, never remembered the way her body twitched and spasmed beneath him. When it was over, she continued their discussions as if nothing had happened. More than once, she’d wanted to get right back to their fun, remembering too late just how enthusiastically they’d coupled shortly before.

She tried to chain the dark and the dark bit back. Soft cream is now blue and purple. Can’t wear that again, it’s meant to be white not scarlet red like the Jewel of the sailor girl who doesn’t know how to be a Queen.” he said, repeating Alixen’s own words for her ears. Something about a Red Jewel worried him. A Red Jeweled girl who didn’t know how to be Queen? Francois’s thoughts turned to the Dark Haven. That’s where a girl with a Red Jewel would end up, if she lived here in Chaillot. Too many families considered Dark Jewels a precursor to insanity. Francois thought it was bullshit, but he was clearly in the minority.

I’d take a Red Jeweled Queen over the current regime. At least a Queen would be acting in her proper role.” Francois said. He regretted it the moment the words left his mouth. Alixen had a strange loyalty to the Roux brothers, a loyalty that surpassed whatever it was that he shared with her. She wouldn’t leave Etienne Roux, not even for him.

Anyway, what do you think the rest of it means? Chaining the dar and the dark biting back? That sounds like a bad way to go for someone.” Francois said.

Speaking of which...how well do you know the people at Dark Haven? If I needed to talk to someone there, do you think they’d turn me in to your...friends?” Francois asked, not wishing to acknowledge the Roux brothers by name.

"“I’d take a Red Jeweled Queen over the current regime. At least a Queen would be acting in her proper role.”

Seagull bared her teeth in an aggressive snarl, a thing her namesake could never actually accomplish accept in a nightmare landscape where birds had the fangs of large, predatory cats. She flung herself towards him, straddling him in a twisted mess of legs and blankets. Her hands landed on his shoulders, pushing him back against the mattress as she stared down at him. Her nails bit into his skin.

Her eyes flashed as she continued to bare her teeth. Her voice, raw as spirals of air crossed her injured vocal chords, added to the impact of her words. "Talk shit about my wolf and I'll stop biting my tongue about those... women... you pander to."

The threat was more violent than it sounded, and they both knew it. Caught on opposite sides of a war, Noose and his Seagull walked a line no thicker than a single breath exhaled during a skipped heartbeat. If they unleashed their true opinions about the state of the other's allegiances, neither would walk away whole, if they walked away at all. Lix thought that more likely, no walking, no crawling, true destruction of each other.

Part of her craved it. But not enough to yield to his words and allow the end of them to smash each of them into a million shimmering sparks.

Just as quickly she released him, although she didn't move her from her perch. Rather she sat up and looked down at him, stretching as if the moment before had been nothing but a flickering memory. From this vantage point, the night's work was perfectly displayed, a near rainbow of colors chasing each other down her body. They wrapped around her throat, spilled over her shoulder, pooled heavily at her breasts, and dripped down her ribs and waist until they splashed brightly across her thighs.

"How much money do you have?" She let her arms fall to her sides and smiled down at him, her back perfectly straight. When he didn't offer her a concrete answer right away, she sighed heavily. "That is the answer to your question, Noose. How much money do you have? The Lady of Dark Haven has black raven wings. At least that's what Regarte says. I like her. She is very wise."

Alixen looked down at Noose pleasantly, as if she had just given him all the information necessary to do what he needed to do.
