LOA reformatting

We have updated the format/process for registering a formal Leave of Absence from the site. Please see the edits here: LINK.

We all love the site and the fantastic stories that we conjure together collaboratively. Sometimes, however, the real world demands that we step away from the board for a bit to tend to other things. And sometimes, trying to keep abreast of board plots and story matters can be an added stressor in a time when we're already taxed.

Registering a Leave of Absence when this happens has always allowed players to keep their peers informed about their availability. We are now recognizing two types of LOA: Scheduled and Indefinite.

Scheduled LOAs are LOAs for which you have an anticipated return date. This would apply to traveling you intend to do that will take you away from the board, or a cold or flu you expect to be over in a few days, or work appointments... or anything, really, so long as you have at least a rough estimate of a return date.

Indefinite LOAs are for when life intervenes in a more significant way, and you don't know when you'll be back to writing on the site. This should be used if you change jobs, for instance, and you don't know how long it's going to take you to get acclimated and find time to write again (or if you will at all). Or if your muses leave you for a time and you just want to take a break from the site until the little voices we all love start speaking to you again.

The biggest difference to the LOA registration process is that now, when you go on an Indefinite LOA, you're prompted to indicate whether you want to continue to receive board-related communications from other players. If a player goes on Indefinite LOA and indicates they do NOT want to be contacted for board matters, the remaining players are expected to respect that desire. Every Territory has a Plot Proxy assigned to it for this very reason.

If the LOA player is a Plot Lead and you have questions about their Territory, direct those questions through the designated Plot Proxy, or to HBC if the Plot Proxy is unavailable for some reason. This way plot questions can be resolved in a timely matter without anyone adding stress to someone who has stepped away from the board to deal with real-life matters.
